If there ever were a better word to describe the Rio Theatre's programming this summer, it is “diverse.” T'is Pride season, are we're celebrating all the colours of Vancouver's rainbow with a fabulous selection of movies and live events.
Join us for for everything from newly restored staples of queer cinema including Ang Lee’s romantic drama BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN (July 18) or Daniel Day Lewis in MY BEAUTIFUL LAUNDRETTE (July 26) to John Waters’ notorious satire POLYESTER (featuring Divine - and presented in Odorama! - July 27) to cult-classics like THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW (July 19), the eye-popping Australian road trip comedy, THE ADVENTURES OF PRISCILLA, QUEEN OF THE DESERT (July 28), to the sapphic summer camp comedy BUT I’M A CHEERLEADER with Natasha Leoni (our #FridayLateNight movie on August 1).
Plus live shows including burlesque producer, April O'Peel's, CIRQUE DU SLAY (July 31) featuring daredevil acts by Rain City Circus, and our friend Dandy’s annual Pride variety show, BIG GAY CABARET (August 1). We have something for everyone!
